Overview

Feeling under the weather? We have a few tricks up our sleeve to help you on your road to recovery. Before you hit the medicine cabinet there are a few natural techniques to consider as your first line of defense. When you're sick, the power of natural remedies can be a gentle and holistic approach to wellness. From the soothing comfort of a warm magnesium bath to hydrating with electrolytes, these tips can offer relief and support for your body's natural healing process.

Natural remedies

Bone broth: Fond Bone Broth can be consumed any time no matter how you’re feeling. It’s full of nutrients that fuel you if your appetite is low. Any of the options are great, but the one with garlic (an immune boosting food) can help with sickness.

Easily digestible, nourishing foods: Fill your plate and cup with broths, bananas, apple sauce, and rice while limiting sugar and dairy intake. These mild foods are easy on your GI tract and can help settle an upset stomach. For a fever, try cooling foods like fruits and cold-pressed juices (stick to juices with ginger, dark leafy greens, and lemon).

Healing foods: Try incorporating garlic, berries, turmeric, dark leafy greens, walnuts, ginger, green tea, and ground flax seeds into your meals to reduce inflammation and add antioxidants.

Hydrate (very) well: Fevers, sweating, or GI issues can lead to an excessive amount of fluid loss. To avoid dehydration, replete electrolytes with LMNT electrolytes (1-2 packets daily). Also drink Harmless Harvest Coconut Water for natural electrolytes and rehydration.

Throat spray: Beekeeper's Naturals Propolis Throat Spray is the best spray to have on hand for sore throat, cough, or itchy throat. It works almost instantly.

Drops: Wedderspoon Manuka Honey Drops  can be used to calm a sore or scratchy throat. Manuka is incredibly healing and supports the immune system plus the drops offer a calming effect.

Sinus rinse: NeilMed Sinus Rinse can be used proactively during allergy seasons to rinse nasal passageways, and also be used when sick to clear sinuses and alleviate pressure.

Increase magnesium: Magnesium can absorb transdermally (through the skin) and helps with rest and recovery. Add Magnesium Bath Soak to a warm bath to increase magnesium absorption. If you are experiencing congestion, give yourself a luxurious and healing spa moment by adding drops of eucalyptus in a steamy, warm shower.

Supplements: Double your vitamin D supplementation (around 10,000 IU) while symptoms are present, utilize daily Elderberry syrup and lypo spheric vitamin C (one packet daily).

Get outside: Slowly increase time outside for fresh air and sunshine, when feasible.
