What are your daily wellness non-negotiables?
Molly: at least 3 liters of water, my Perelel mom multi support pack, magnesium, and greens in at least 2 of my meals.
Lindsay: My magnesium supplement, sleep hygiene (the wind down before bed, at least 7-8 hours a night) diet packed with fruit & veggies as best I can!
Can you share the inspiration behind starting The Motherhood Method? What motivated you to create this platform?
We wanted a one stop shop for women who are on any end of the fertility spectrum- trying to conceive through postpartum. We wanted to educate and empower women to feel their best throughout their journey by having the best resources at their fingertips with our expert speakers, intentional nourishment with over 100 recipes organized by trimester and safe and effective movement to stay strong.
How do you balance running your own business and being a mom?
Molly: carving out time in my calendar that I am completely blocked off from any mom duties to focus on work helps a lot. I have learned that working from home with kids around never goes well. Working with a partner to hold each other accountable has been great as well
Lindsay: it’s tough! Sometimes it means working after they go to bed and you are making dinner for yourself and catching up on emails/content etc. Having a partner absolutely helps with staying on top of things but also to bounce ideas off too. It’s also great when they are also a mom so they just get it! Blocking out time on the calendar is really the only way to be productive, I usually put on a playlist and focus on getting head down and getting tasks done in the time I’ve set aside! Also childcare… it really does take a village.
What are the top three things that helped you navigate pregnancy?
Molly: I was the first of my friends to get pregnant with my first so I didn’t have an easy network for my questions but I had a great OB (Dr. Catilin Fiss!), googled a lot and tried to trust my gut. I wish I knew then everything I know now, which is why we want to give that information to those going through it for the first time!
Lindsay: I was also (and still am!) the first to have a baby out of my friends so I have really missed out on that element of female support in some respects. Fortunately, all my clients are moms and moms to be so being surrounded by that daily helped me hugely as we all lean on each other for support! I agree with Molly, trusting my gut was something I never truly understood until I became a mom. The intuition is there and I now try to trust that before heading to google! My pregnancy was through IVF so there was a lot of anxiety wrapped up in it, movement really helped me stay sane as well as strong and healthy too.
What are your top three maternity and baby products?
Molly: Bumpsuits got me through my pregnancies, Nanit cameras, Kyte baby pjs
Lindsay: we travel home to London a lot so the Doona was a must for us! The Nanit camera and the Babybjorn bouncer.
What advice would you give a new mom?
Molly: Make time for yourself and to connect with other moms. That mom tribe is so essential for feeling connected and understood. Try not to let guilt take away from enjoying each phase
Lindsay: having solo time is not selfish. You can do things without your child and come back and be a better mom because of it. This took me a long time to figure out! Your body needs time to heal. Be patient and focus on strength and recovery postpartum rather than what it says on the scales or what size jeans you’re wearing. You will feel like yourself again eventually! Everything is temporary.
The Motherhood Method and The Wellness Industry
How does The Motherhood Method support women through their pregnancy and into motherhood?
We offer an expert speaker series with talks from everyone you would want in your corner during pregnancy and motherhood- pediatrician, doula, lactation consultant, sleep consultant and more. We have trimester specific workouts and recipes. Each workout is safe and effective and the recipes each explain why we chose certain ingredients for that period of the pregnancy or postpartum. We hope to empower women to feel nourished and strong throughout pregnancy and into motherhood.
What kind of nutrition advice does The Motherhood Method provide?
We offer trimester specific satisfying, nourishing, balanced recipes so women can feel good knowing they are getting the vitamins and nutrients they need.
What kind of exercise guidance does The Motherhood Method provide?
From trying to conceive/cycle syncing, trimester specific and postpartum rehabilitation we have it all. Each video is between 10-45 mins and follow a combination of contemporary Pilates, sculpt and dance cardio. We use light resistance and weights to add a little bit of spice to the classes and I filmed the content whilst pregnant so our members can grow with me too! Our main goal is to help women feel strong and comfortable in their bodies as they grow. Pregnancy isn’t a one size fits all so having the options of barre, sculpt, strength and conditioning etc helps women choose what they want to do dependant on how their body feels day to day. Saying that, ALL the videos focus on abdominal strength and proper queuing for pelvic floor and TVA activation. So whatever our members are doing baby is safe, abs are strengthened and pelvic floor is also considered.
In what ways does The Motherhood Method help build community among pregnant women and new moms?
We try to get our moms together through in person events for that important connection. We also are hoping to build our social media to offer that connection as well.
What's the most gratifying piece of feedback you've received about The Motherhood Method?
When we hear “ I wish I found this sooner” or “I wish I had this for my first pregnancy!” we feel like we are doing something right!
